To Boldly Go
Yesterday we began our fall series "To Boldly Go." Borrowing from the old Star Trek theme, we're talking about being part of God's mission in the world to heal, restore, redeem, and recreate. To kick off the sermon I did my best imitation of Captain James T. Kirk. However, at the end of the service as I raised my hand to offer the benediction, several gestured that I should give a nod to the character Spock from Star Trek and give the Vulcan salute - "live long and prosper." I didn't realize until this morning, the origins of the salute. It really would have been quite fitting. Perhaps I'll give it a go next weekend!
